I'm pondering on doing a Borders meet at the back end - Sept/Oct time. Was up at Bodgerndog's a couple of weekends ago in Dumfries and Galloway and looks like there might be some nice spots for a small gathering. Might tempt some of our Scottish friends as not so far to travel perhaps? That's if they/us don't need passports by then! This would be a separate meet from another I'm also planning, with kimbobill's help, further down Midlands way. Doesn't have to be Dumfries and Galloway, anywhere good around the Borders is fine. Anybody up for this? All suggestions on a decent location gratefully received

Ta for that Rebbyvid. However, it's a bit too close to home for me and definitely not in the Borders!

tis according to wikipedia :-) Abbey St Bathans is a community in Berwickshire in the eastern part of the Scottish Borders. Unique in its topography, a long winding steep wooded valley, it lies within the Abbey St Bathans, Preston & Bonkyl Community Council area.
Although its name suggests a larger foundation, Abbey St Bathans was originally a priory of Cistercian Nuns. It was sanctified and then used as a retreat by the sisters who formed the community at Haddington and at Nunraw, under the patronage of Ada, Countess of Dunbar and her husband Patrick, Earl of Dunbar.

OK - had a couple of suggestions this week, not Borders but wilds of Northumberland. One was a place called Clennell Hall near Rothbury which has hosted folk festivals and camping meets, the other was a pair of camping barns a bit further north and west of Clennell in the middle of nowhere - can't even get a mobile signal, apparently, which gets my vote straight away! One of the barns has showers and toilets installed. I'm being emailed the contact details for the guy who deals with bookings for both places as my big sis was talking to him the other day and mentioned that I was looking for somewhere suitable for a bit of wildcamping for motorhomes. Watch this space...

But glad u going too! Is Carol's new van a secret? I know she was worried about talking about it before she got it in case it didn't work out, but she went to Brandon in it so can't be too much of a secret! maybe she wants to make an announcement on here??

It's not a secret AFAIK - Citroen Harmony from memory. Very nice and has a shower too. Carol keeps promising a van warming party - I think we are having cocktails and a tiered snack tray party on the Thursday at Farmer Phils - may be the occasion! I think similar to this Hope I'm right on that!

I think Moniave near Thornhill Northwest of Dumfries might be a good place to hold a Borders meet. I have spoken to someone who lives in the village about the possibility of holding a meet there. There are 2 pubs that sell real ale a nice cafe and village store. One of the pubs is the Craigdarroch Hotel right in the middle of the village. There is a field behind the Hotel with a tap and somewhere to empty toilet waste, which they use for camping when they hold the Folk festival in May there is a Bluegrass Festival 26th to 28th September, also a beer festival 15th to17th August. The Hotel often has music on at the weekend. The field belongs to a local farmer who has a tractor to give a tow should anyone need assistance to get off the field. It is a really friendly little village and they welcome visitors, as this helps to keep the local shop, cafe and pubs going. The Craigdarroch Hotel, Moniave has a website and also you can check it out on Facebook.
