I've been using my hudl since the charger broke on my notebook.
I suffered from the screen freezing but downloaded the recent Android update and it seems to have mostly fixed this.
One thing I have found is that the screen is very unstable when the charger is plugged in. It is basically unusable. Does anyone else have this problem and is it fixable?

The screen freeze is a common one but I have not heard of the misbehaving while charging at all.

I'd check the cable and plug on the charger lead, sounds like not getting enough charge to recharge battery and allow screen power at same time.
I downloaded an excellent app from Play for optimising and freeing up memory called Clean Sweep, it might be worth giving that a go and also do a virus check.

Good point about charger, I hadn't considered that may be faulty.
I'm pleased that the Android update seems to have def fixed the screen freeze though. No problems since updating a few days ago. Tesco support were supposed to issue a patch but they may not now if the Android update has fixed it.

Alaso check that the usb ouput charger is puttting out enough amperage as mine needs 2.1 amp not the 500ma a standard usb out puts

The pins are so small in the plug, I don't think I can get the multi meter probes on to test the charger output but, the best way may be to plug in another charger and see if I get the same problem or if it is cured.

How often do you power it off and restart? I do it about once a week just to clear cache etc.

About twice a week I think, sometimes three. I have left it in sleep mode a couple of times and the battery went completely flat, but that hasn't happened recently.

A little tip to reduce power consumption without powering it off - put it into Aircraft mode, mine will only use about 10% power over 24 hours in aircraft mode.
And make sure your wifi, sync, gps etc is all switched off if you're parked up where there is no signal as they will continue to search for signal constantly and so will use power unnecessarily.
All above also applies to android phones.

But the laptop can do a few things the hudl can't, so I'll definitely have to get my arse in gear and do that job. I think I have some solder somewhere. I did even buy a new plug jack from Maplins but it is a non standard size so the new plug is a bit loose, and I think I'll try to fix the old one up.

@wvw airmode tip is working well. It still seems to pick up my mifi or switch itself out to do that, but definitely saving power. I'd never have thought of it!
Charger a bit more tricky as I want a eeepc seashell 12v car charger. OEM was 240v. It is a very small plug 2.7mm dia. Struggling so far to find match online for 12v. I have maplin 12v input multi output which gives 19v output but l have to solder the small plug on end.
