Yes we cooked his goose last night. I can't say I've ever butchered a goose before, but I managed to get two large breast fillets, two legs and two smallish wings. Plus heart, liver and kidneys for the dogs. There wasn't a lot of meat left on the skin! Decided to joint and skin it rather than plucking because of the time and mess involved with plucking. Also healthier because there is lot of fat in goose skin which you only end up rendering off the bird and collecting in a tray... not ideal for cooking in motorhome ovens like that. We fed three people with it plus quite a few more had a taste and I've still got another meal out of what's left - it's in my fridge at the moment! Probably enough meat for at least six people on a goose.

Brilliant wish I had still been there for the feast that was a big bird so glad you all enjoyed it. So Charlie's goose was finally cooked in more ways than one.

Chainsaw Charlie is no more bring on Goosey Goosey Gander. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope there was no damage to the van. Is road kill (well it hit the van) going to be the normal a future meets?

Yes, Bruce, thanks for organising it! Had a great weekend - went to the steam fair, saw traction engines at the pub, and got to eat wild goose Good weather, if a little hot. Forgot to show Ems&Beau my collection of rocks from two years of Scotland trips amongst all the other excitement.

I had second helpings of goose on Monday. Kept the fridge on in the last few days.
Twice cooked and lightly fried with onions, salt, black pepper and olive oil. Coated in truffle oil to serve and eaten with red current jelly, new potatoes and carrots - magnificent! Every last scrap of goosey was eaten. I would say it served 5-6 meals in the end.
Thanks to Karen for veg and JennyP for potatoes.

Well just got home this afternoon and would like to thank Bruce for another great meet at Brandon. A few of us went on a little tour of the Cotswold's again just like last year. We ended up at the Caerphilly Cheese Festival which was also another great meet of Haydns. From there Jenny P and big John, Baz and Christine, Me and Jose went on to Brecon for one night. Jenny and John went home and Baz and Christine and Jose and me ended up at Betws-Y-Coed for just one night. We left this afternoon for home. I met the goose tied to the back of Charlies van ( not Marie ). We will never know what brought him down like that but there are quiet a few theories like over head cables, lightening, getting intoxicated flying over Robs van etc. I never heard the bang as I was well gone in bed but from what everyone said it was lucky Charlies van came out of it unscathed. I never got a taste of the wee fella as Vern took the last bits home with him before I got up . Never mind it will save me getting in a flap. Once again thanks for a great meet Bruce. .... Tom ....
