I'll abstain from voting. I haven't contributed to funds and it's not something I would ever use or benefit from. It's an open poll, Kangaroo, not dependent on having contributed to the forum funds. Lots of members won't have contributed either

I think I'd also abstain if I were in Kangooroo's position, if I hadn't contributed and would never use it either. I can guarantee she wouldn't get use out of it! Edit: If anyone is not too keen on the oven, there is this thread: freemotorhominguk.boards.net/thread/1164/suggestions-use-forum-funds where you can make suggestions, and if one is really set on a certain idea, then you can post a poll in this forum

We don't really have any admin costs for running of the club/forum. The hosting is free and people donate their time do admin/mod. I have a few expenses, and Robmac did some work on getting the Exemption certificate, but I'm happy to cover mine as a donation, and I think Rob is too. I doubt it would be more than £25-50 a year. We raised about £300 from raffles and donations in a year so all that can be used to buy things for the members. It doesn't just have to be things for meets. We can buy things for the forum too from Proboards such as buying ad free time or increasing the space for attachments or add-ons. It's just those things aren't such great value. For example we can go advert free for 50,000 page views at $6 a month but that would be $72 a year just on getting rid of adverts alone. More on premium forum features here: www.proboards.com/premium-forum-featuresWe have 200mb for attachments of which we are using 114mb. We could increase that to 800mb for $6 a month but then again we could delete attachments in old threads.

I think it's probably the case that most of the funds are raised at meets. I know there was a donation recently from someone who doesn't go to meets. I do think it's fair that since there are no admin fees to pay, buying kit for the meets is valid. May be in future if someone makes a donation who doesn't go to a meet then that money could go into a separate pot? Or is that getting too bureaucratic? I don't think it's really an issue anyway, unless someone objects.

I'm abstaining as I have not been active in the club for very long and have not contributed to funds. The question of the use of funds and the management of club assets can be tricky in even the most formally constituted of groups, but with an informal and geographically widespread group such as this it becomes really difficult, as I know from experience. With minimal running costs, it is hard to see what else the money could be used for other than equipment. True, only members attending meets would benefit from the kind of purchase being proposed, and you have the problem of keeping track of who has what, and getting things to where they need to be. Also, what if someone leaves the forum and takes kit with them? You're going to have these sorts of issues whatever you do. In the end, people have given or raised money because they felt they wanted to put something into a group that they get enjoyment from - everyone has the opportunity to veto or support a specific suggestion, even if they have not donated, so just let the democratic process take its course - but do give people plenty of time. Perhaps having a separate forum section entitled 'Club funds' would make it more visible?

I would like to say that I have done one small donation and will be making another shortly. My donations can be used for anything that the club members and staff think would be beneficial no matter what it is. Sandie came up with with something similar to what I was going to suggest. That is to put a thread up with two lists. one list is for the members name to vote for his donations to go in the anything goes list. The other list is for members names to go into the running of the club only list. It does not matter if they have donated or not as they may well do in the future. That way the money goes to where the donate'r prefers. I know it becomes a little bit more messy but it is still quiet simple. I don't think it will alter the buying power to much as Carol as pointed out most of the money comes from meets and raffles at meets with prizes donated by members. .... Tom ....

I really don't care if any money I might contribute towards raising gets used to buy something i'll never get any benefit from. I just think that things like gazebos, dutch ovens ,firepits etc are impractical and could very easily end up as a right pita.if it was my job to carry anything like that I'd probably leave it by a bin.ephemeral things can be much more fun ! and a lot less hassle !

I am sorry i have not contributed so i really shouldn't comment but this did tickle me as judging by the Whitwell meet maybe some toasting forks would be better as the smell of burnt flesh was putting me off my beer. Extra long ones

I've yet to make a meet & as a result am currently a non contributer. Plus the fact that I'm only partial to a bit of well barbecued chicken but would be a veggie otherwise probably renders me out of the vote as it's something that I'd probably not use.
Hey, the way that I see it, is that this idea will contribute massively to the group social scene & ok awkward buggers like myself can cater for ourselves & if they're like me then we understand that! It'll last forever & bring a lot of joy & fun around it, even for those like me enjoying the social time whilst you're waiting to fill your bellies.
For the money buy a separate North & South one, if the northerners & southerners are at the same meet, you'll probably need two anyway, enjoy!

when i was little and homeless living in a squat, one lad stole the neighbours pet wabbit,Snowy. nobody knew how to kill it, so that got a bit messy. then someone made a stew of rabbit meat, lots of little splintery bones and lumps of fur.never really fancied eating bunny after that.

Shuddering at the thought of eating somebody's pet, but wild rabbit is fine if you skin and joint it and fillet it.
We did a goose, so I think we can manage a rabbit. Pheasant is also good, have skinned that too, plucking takes ages!

Charlie, don't know if you are aware, but you usually need to scrub a DO in soapy water with wire wool and take off all of the black coating, then season it by rubbing it with cooking oil and baking it in a very hot oven for at least an hour before use.
Loads of stuff on google/youtube if you're unsure.
