Un-Real!...This is the 3rd Time that a Trip to Greywell has 'evaporated' for Me! It's almost a Legendary, Mythical Location Now!! Did you not know that it's a ghostly location? I won't tell Jo that!!

Good news and bad news Good news - loads of wood for the fire. Bad news - a tree was blown down in the gales with 2 more unstable across the car park. They won't be cleared until Saturday at the earliest so we can't use the scout centre this weekend... Sorry folks. Andrea is now working on plan C...... Watch this space.

Don't forget we have our all singing, all dancing, exemption certificate for meets/rallies if you need it.
It may be useful at a pub etc if there is a chance of NIMBYs reporting. This happened when WC used the field behind the Brown Cow pub near Lincoln. Or at the Scout Hut, I remember there were complaints. Only thing is if you use the certificate, vans need to be 6m apart, which isn't always possible eg Scout Hut Car Park.
But if you can comply with the terms of the certificate, it means nobody can do anything as long as it lasts less than 5 days which shouldn't be a problem.

Plan c is becoming a real challenge. Thanks for the reminder of the exemption certificate Vern.
I've contacted two scout HQs and two pubs today, thanks to Chris, but it's a no for three of them. Still waiting to hear from one scout HQ but if they say no the meet is looking very unlikely - any more ideas anyone?

Ham Hill is another one but the warden would like us to ring him Just thought Fromebridge Mill near Stroud also Birdlip

goo.gl/maps/giM97Bulbarrow Hill Dorset. Stunning views and hardstanding for several vans. I've stopped here several times before without any probs. Only negative is the nearest pub, a good mile and a half away and an uphill stagger back.....still, it'll keep ya fit! The Fox in Ansty...... www.anstyfoxinn.co.uk/ ....not enough parking at the pub though.

Just had this reply from my final venue of the day.
Hello Andrea I am really sorry but we can’t accommodate you. We do have other users booked over the weekend and cannot interrupt their arrangements. Hope that you find something else Thanks and good luck Best Peter
Thanks Basildog and Rubbertramp for your suggestions. I will continue working on finding somewhere.

You're so right Basildog - what was I thinking.
Let's go for wild with a view. Bulbarrow Hill, Blandford Forum, Dorset.

There are houses just down from the car park, but might be far enough away for a fire pit on the waste ground.

I didn't ask about the fire pit. We haven't been there but son and his father in law go there for quizzes.
Landlord says he hasn't done this before but happy to give it a go, so potential for another venue. He would like everyone to park at te rear of the car park.

Fire pit was tongue in cheek really... but then I noticed the waste ground after.
I think if we asked initially it might put them off, but once we have been there an evening, drunk a load of Doom Bar, and checked out the waste ground, it may be appropriate to ask.

Didn't see Doombar on their list of Ales Vernon. But they sure have some good alternatives!

Lee says bombedier is good, even though he still isn't drinking... I've never been a fan of Bombardier Linda, but they've got 6X, Batemans, Caffrey's and Tribute so there is plenty to go at!

Sorry to go a bit O/T (tho'it's about the Grey Fox...) Can You believe this?... We've now actually BEEN there; took a short detour on the way back Y'day, Met Richard, explained that I was only there briefly to check that They were looking after the bench properly ( ). Got a nice, friendly welcome & He says..'You look like a Real Ale Man?' I rub My Hands together & say 'Is the Bear Catholic?' (or similar..) Richard replies; 'Thought so...........so sorry but We've run out of Ale (!!?!)...had a really good W/E!!' So,did some of Us stop here at the W/E instead of continuing to H/Hill?!!

Not so good Rob!! Altho' better than the Bloke who owns the Hymer there:- We'd just turned up, backed into a space...& watched some chinless wonder (pink shirt, chunky gold watch, flash Merc. Coupe...) reverse back into the Hymer & break its back fog light! I just KNOW that He would've just driven off if another Camper Van had n't just pulled in & clocked Him!

Wasn't a cockney bloke in the Merc was it with a skinny Blonde GF? If so, I've seen him there before, and he don't mind having a few beers then driving home!
