Am getting soooooo excited just reading about it! There's a folk festival at Moniaive, near Dumfries on 9th, 10,and 11 th too. Would be a great start to the holiday but probably not practicable. So who is on this convoy then besides me, Vernon, Tom, Mark and hopefully Anne? And me!

At the risk of totally cocking it all up I have put down those interested and what they have said they *might* interested in. Where no opinion expressed I left it as "?" If anything needs to be updated/changed, let me know.

Edit: Ferry Costs: Skye-Mallaig: £40 (Based on 6m or less van and one person). Extra people add £5 each. Longer vans consult ferry website. Island Hopping Oban-Islay-Kintyre-Arran-Ardrossan: £200 (Based on above) Extra people add £25 each. Longer vans consult ferry website. Sky/Mallaig: www.calmac.co.uk/tickets/standard-tickets.htmOban/Islay/Kintyre/Arran: www.calmac.co.uk/tickets/island-hopping/hopscotch-17-arran-kintyre-and-islay.htmIf some people want to cut costs, suggest omit Island Hopping and you can tour Kintyre peninsula by road and meet up with Island hoppers in the middle. Sky-Mallaig Ferry can be omitted to save. You can go round by road but it is about 90 miles round, 3-4 gallons of diesel, say £25 so you'll save about £15.

Going back to the table, if MaryMC doesn't want to go that far North to begin, and someone else isn't too bothered about Skye etc then they could tour lower down and we can all meet in the middle Fort William/Oban/Mull for a few days ... nobody has to do the route shown all together, it is just a framework for those who want to see quite a bit.

Thanks for getting that together Vernon. If last year is anything to go by it will all come together. I can still remember us all meeting up that wet and windy night at the Green Welly truck stop place. Great fun. Do you think you'll get to Ribblehead?

I'll add you onto the table As I said there are plenty of options to tour the Kintyre Peninsula by road, meet with island hoppers in the middle etc. Or you can tour lower down in the Oban/Fort William/Lomond area if you don't want to go up to Sky/Applecross, but I've put you down for that at the moment.

Just a thought... on your last weekend, when you'll be heading south, there is a folk festival on at Ireby in North Cumbria, about 20 miles from J40 of the M6. It would be a good way to finish your trip, and it's not a huge one so tickets not too expensive. I've got it in my diary but am not yet 100% sure if I will go. www.irebyfestival.co.uk/

No problems Jen, I'll add you onto the table. You'll have to say which bits you want to do, but I've put you down for the main route at the moment.
The first bit of the convoy is looking quite busy so we may have to form into two groups - late and early risers? LOL

Whereabouts is Arisaig, Mary. Went there years ago and was amazing. Was once voted into the top ten beaches in the world! i have been to Arisaig a few times Carol, it is truly stunning, parking is very limited tho, there is a public car park but this gets full as its the only place to park, there is roadside parking, and it is very quiet, but again, these place get taken quickly, there is public toilets too, i have a few pics of the area, i will try to email you them xx

There is only one pub in the village for sessions. They usually have venues around the village. Ireby is on the edge of the lake district at back of Skiddaw, some nice walking on some of the smaller fells, i have been up there on a Bank holiday weekend and only seen another couple of walkers.

I am going to Moniave folk festival outside Dumfries the weekend you set off and then on to the Bearded Theory Festival the weekend you come back. So I will probably just potter about galloway for a while. Then head of up to Scotland later on after the midges have gone if anybody fancies joining me.

Just phoned Caledonian Macbrayne www.calmac.co.uk/ (0800) 066 5000 They advise booking in advance two to three weeks, so about now is about the time to book. You can probably leave it up to the beginning of May though. Even if you don't book in advance you will probably be able to get on a crossing but no certainty we will all get on the same one or on the same day. If you/we don't get on the Saturday 17 16.45 sailing from Oban you/we will miss Islay and only be able to do Arran at the end. The crossings to and from Arran are very frequent. NB Because of the 17 May 16.45 deadline at Oban, there is very little time for Fort William. We will be able to spend a night at Arisaig area and then head for Oban the next day We are planning to sail from: 1. Armadale (Skye) to Mallaig on Friday 16th May (one way) 11.40 sailing Friday 16th May (or possibly Thursday 15th May (less time in Skye, more at Oban)) 2. Hopscotch 17 www.calmac.co.uk/tickets/island-hopping/hopscotch-17-arran-kintyre-and-islay.htmDepart: Oban Sat 17 May 16.45 (This is a key date/time. This route only sails on Sat and Wed so very limited. Will have to wait 4 days for next crossing which will be too late)Depart: Ellen (Islay) Tue 20 May 12.30 Depart: Claonaig(Kyntyre Peninsula) Sometime on Wed 21 or Thur 22 (This is a turn up and go crossing so flexible!) Depart: Brodick (Arran) for Ardrossan (Ayr and M74) Sat 24 May 18.00 So get your tickets booked in the next week or so. The only crossing which is really critical is Oban - Islay For the record a motorhome (5-6m) and 2 people, crossing 1 was £45.00, hopping 2 was £226. 1 person take off £30 total, bigger motorhomes add a bit - see their website.

NB Oban Sat 17th Ferry time. The rest of it is pretty flexible: Firefox billieblue robmac stonedaddy onion Alec advised to get Calmac island hopper ticket (Route 17) to include this sailing early. If we all can't get on, not the end of the world as it is possible to skip Islay and just do Arran at the end, after meeting again on the Kintyre peninsula at Kennecraig on the Tuesday 20 May. kimbowbill It seems you are more or less doing what we are doing, but in reverse, so look at your itinerary and our dates and our times more or less are defined better in the table now, and the times of our ferry crossings one or two posts above so you should be able to see where we can meet up for a couple of days.

I doubt I'll be able to do this one now....have some work to do on a new van but still hoping to go on the second trip. Have Calmac changed their booking policy by the way? My experience there three years go was that you couldn't guarantee the crossing you wanted even if you did book. It was a case of just joining the queue. Shouldn't be much to worry about as the short hops have several crossings daily....well Mallaig-Skye, Lochaline-Mull and Tobermory to Ardnamurchan did anyway.
