A regular occurence for me on my old computer is having an hour long battle to get connected. It always says something is unplugged and it isn't. I think it's the result of some sort of "attack". This time I've got going again, but there is no sound on videos like youtube etc. I've checked volume and all seems to correct. The "chimes" when windows starts are loud and clear. Any ideas, anyone? I had to do "system restore" to get going again, and, yes, I haven't a clue! sean rua.

Well, the brand new computer that the daughter bought for me is Windows 8 and I'm crap on it. I agree 'tis better for mobile work (laptop) but I'm having to wait till her husband visits from Switzerland. he's into all that stuff.
Btw, I fixed the sound problem on videos! On the youtube ones there is a sound speaker symbol at bottom left area that if clicked brings up a volume bar yoke. Just moved the slider to the wider end and it got going again. Goodness knows what switched it off!
And to think of all the sh it I went through, ie Device Manager, etc etc! Pulled out about four cables and re-inserted - all for nothing. Undoubtedly, knowledge is power!
Why the connection plays up, I don't know. Too much conflicting security, perhaps?
