Had a mooch on the web site, all a bit typical council lacking in depth info, and they do mention fly fishing a lot. Although course is slightly mentioned. Anyway maggots turn into flies so that's nearly the same thing.

It is exactly 2.5 miles from the site to the pub at Edith Weston. Anybody up for a yomp on Friday night? I'd be up for it if can get there early enough! There also looks to be a pub: The Horse and Jockey at Manton: goo.gl/maps/0njBDOnly a mile's walk and you can walk along the water and bridleways to get there on the back lanes. And one at Wing, slightly further but nice walk across the Chater valley. Here's the one at Wing: goo.gl/maps/g1QIMWebsite: www.thekingsarms-wing.co.uk/index.htmlFood is a bit up-market to be honest, but can always just have a drink. Possible activity (assuming they are both still open) - 2 pub crawl taking in the Kings Arms and the Horse and Jockey. Lots of footpaths available for a circular tour. Round trip 6km or about 4 miles.

I've been told that the pub at Wing is a bit 'nobby' and the likes of us scum might not be too welcome! I believe Julia Bradbury goes in there every now and then as she's a Rutland gal, though, much as I like her, it still doesn't tempt me too much!
I'll go with the flow though, and I like the idea of a mile walk by the water.

I have to agree the one at Wing looks well posh. Food is crazy prices. Still it may break a longer walk with a quick pint or two, and we can end up at the Horse and Jockey. www.horseandjockeyrutland.co.uk/index.htmlThat one looks more reasonable prices and was Camera pub of the season so they say!

I'll have to dig out my sparkler bomb. If we get stuck for explosives, aerosol cans in the camp fire is always a laugh, if a little dangerous... and will need to remake the fire afterwards!

Robmac and Francophile are already there I think. I got held up at work, as usual. Should be there later though.
I'll print out some OS maps of the area.

Great meet again.
Tbear and Robmac and I came on Friday night. Tbear and Robmac arrived early enough for a 2 mile walk to the Wheatsheaf at Edith Weston and I saw them about 10.00pm. Then on Sat Livotlout and Hycon joined us and we went for Lunch at the Wheatsheaf again and a few more jars. Tbear left us after Lunch but when we got back Old Gurna had joined us at the campsite. Some of you may know him as OurGlenard from Stonehenge a couple of years back!
Campfire on Sat night - had loads of wood! Lovely day and evening with all stars and milky way visible it was a very peaceful spot overlooking the lake. Everyone had interesting stories to tell. Hycon runs his own business like Robmac and Livotlout has been all over the world overlanding on his motorbike. Old Gurna maintains pools at some of the poshest residences in the country. I liked Livotlout's van - self conversion stealth camper with proper traction batteries and 200W of solar panels - hopefully we will see more!
So Sunday we went to another pub for lunch. 1.5 miles walk along the water to the Horse and Jockey at Manton. We went through a nature reserve and saw some unusual black sheep and rams who followed us for a bit. Again great weather. I liked this pub the most. On the way back we set off the sparkler bomb. It fizzed a bit but was generally pretty crap! We didn't do the fireworks cos there were other people on the camp and sheep in the next field. But we had another great fire in the pit, and another great evening with clearish sky again.
A smallish meet with 5 or 6 people but very enjoyable and met some fantastic people.
Edit: Typos

Well it actually happened! Sounds like you had a good time BUT did you miss us? Yes I did actually, cos as you know I am not really in favour of men's or lady's meets, as I think everyone should mix. I did this one more as challenge initially because it was said we couldn't organise one! I'm glad we did though, as we were lucky with a fantastic venue, perfect weather, and great company. I'd recommend Rutland water - it has everything, water, woods, wildlife, stunning scenery, good local pubs and cheap relaxed camping at Lyndon top (£6 a night)
