Had Rock Samphire and Sea Kale in mashed potato tonight...delish! Rock Samphire is similar in taste to the marsh variety but has a subtle aniseed flavour. Sea Kale steamed for 30 seconds....better than cabbage in my opinion...and no need for salt! Green veg is so abundant in the summer that there is no need to buy it from the shops. Early summer fruits are late this year. I've seen wild Strawberry and Raspberry plants but they're not even flowering yet. They are usually ripe for the picking about now. Must be that freezing spring we had.

Gorse petals are pretty good in May and June. I remember having some sprinkled on Mark's chicken in Scotland. They've got a slightly nutty flavour - definitely worth trying.

New potatoes from next door neighbour are absolutely cracking! Dug up and cooked within an hour.

in his book 'Supernature' Lyall Watson describes how scientists connected a lie detector to a plant,then singed its leaves with a lighter,making the needles jump violently ! it also reacted when live shrimp were tipped into boiling water,in another room.didn't like grass being mown either ! the conclusion they came to was the only thing you can honourably eat,as a caring person,was a cabbage that had died of old age

I remember Supernature! Very interesting read from the 1970's about brain waves, auras, pyramids and all kinds of things.
I was fascinated when I was younger, but I reckon now a lot of it was made up or massaged for a good read, as many of these phenomena have since failed to re-emerge or attract much scientific proof or discussion.
