Vern thats so weird! I just cant imagine what it must have tasted like! And am funny about jellied eels, yuk!But interesting!! I didn't have many jellied eels - they just had a few left at Tescos on the fresh fish. It could have been any fish though. The hot smoked salmon was just a leftover too. If you eat jellied eels cold they do taste different, and some people don't like them, but if you cook them again in soup or a stir fry they become like most other white fish and absorb the flavours of the dish. So if you tried them like that, you probably would not be able to tell which fish they were. I always take the little spine bones out before cooking as they are quite sharp. Never had snails but used to pick, cook and eat winkles on the beach in the north east as a kid. Funny never ate them in France. I would though!

They are similar to winkles. The french ones are bigger and more juicy (less rubbery) than winkles though. They always seem to be served with garlic and herb butter, so that taste sticks in my mind; the snails themselves don't have a very strong taste I don't think.
