I got the Samsung Galaxy S3. It's pretty good. You can even make phone calls on it!

Good advice - their products are OK until they develop a fault and then they don't want to know. In my case it took a year to sue the company through the County Court. They didn't bother to attend the hearing to defend the claim, didn't pay up until Enforcement Action was taken and even then told me they were going to appeal the court judgment - despite being outside the time limit and having no grounds for appeal. Sony products are usually good, especially the cameras. I no longer have a smartphone - a basic model with internet access does all that I need it to.

I've got an HTC Wildfire S and I love it - had my trusty old Nokia for 10 years and always thought that was all I needed until ............

I'm quite pleased with the Sony Xperia Miro - the battery is pretty good, 3 days since last charge, although I keep it on sleep mode most of the time, and switch off wifi and data when at home so it wouldn't last as long when away and got data switched on.
Screen is a reasonable size but smaller than most of the more expensive models. But I don't have to put my specs on to read texts anymore, well, at least not for a while longer. 5MP camera is ok, not great indoors but pretty good quality outdoor snaps, and easy to share etc.
Good features include mini usb charger slot on side instead of at bottom, and earphone socket on top not bottom.
OS is Android 2.3 (ooops, no it's not, it's Android 4) so reasonably up to date and has wifi hotspot so phone can be used as wifi router with laptop instead of a dongle.
The only feature I would change is that the 3 main buttons are touch screen buttons and I would prefer them to be proper buttons so that I can find them easily in the dark, but it's not a major fault, and I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.
For the budget end of the android market (it's around £100), it's not a bad buy at all, but if you could afford to spend a little more, I'm sure it's a case of you get what you pay for and I would recommend going for the most up to date version of Android OS that you can afford. It may be worth having a look at the rest of the Sony Xperia range but make sure that you get a phone with as much internal storage as possible and which can take at least a 16GB mini SD card for storage of apps, music, pics, video etc.
A good tip is to buy your new mobile from somewhere like Asda or Tesco etc which have a no quibble 12 month guarantee on electrical items, so that the phone can be exchanged or refunded in case of problems and you don't find yourself without a phone whilst it gets sent off for repairs. Asda refunded mine without any problem, after 3 months. And you could even return them to any Asda / Tesco, not necessarily the one you bought it from.
Keep all packaging etc in case of return.
Don't be put off if the phone you want is locked to another network - for a small fee, about £5 you can get it unlocked within about 24 hours through ebay or the gadget market stall at your local market. Once unlocked, any sim on any network should work ok so you will be able to use your old sim (and number) in it.
And whatever you do, no matter how cheap it is, DO NOT BUY A VODAFONE SMART2 !

Cool review thx ... even Kangooroo would be proud of that for her Amazon viner collection - I'm going to take a look tomorrow. It could be an expensive day if I get the Propex for the van as well I'm not a power user in the phone stakes so I may well consider the cheaper model.

Cool review thx ... even Kangooroo would be proud of that for her Amazon vine collection My thoughts too! Just one observation, Sony phones tend to be hardest and most expensive to unlock. Unlock codes for Nokia are often free or less than £5 but Sony can be a different ballgame so it's better to buy one already on the network you use, or buy unlocked.

Yep that's the same phone as I've just got, it was £99 on vodafone in Asda. Check online to see if Asda do it with O2 at the same price and then ring up your local store to see if they have them in stock. Try the same for Tesco's and perhaps even Argos (though check the returns / refund / exchange policy for Argos).

Sounds vile ? ;D Yep, I said that my new phone was Android 2.3 but actually it's Android 4 - doh! blonde moment. I think it might be Jelly Bean?! Definitely not Gingerbread as that was my first android mobile. And I think the one I just returned to asda was Ice cream sandwich. Confused? I am. I'd be happy with just a slice of Hot Choc Fudge Cake with Choc Sauce

I just checked they do the Sony Mira at £95 in Tesco but you have to spend £30 in store. But that's OK, I usually spend £10-15 a day on food and I'll just buy a couple of bottles in advance for xmas. And yes it does come with thrown in. Yum! I can't wait ;D

Yes but you don't eat healthily! A diet of crisps, chocolate and fish fingers will catch up with you eventually. Fresh fruit and veg cost money Doing OK - 13 stone 10 and not putting any back on. Doing this 3 day thing at the moment. Day 1 Vegetables only. Day 2 Fish Meat and Veg. Day 3 Fish, Meat, Veg, Fruit and alcohol. Repeat x2 and then on Sunday, anything day. Monday and Thurs are like veg only fasting days. Had a bit of a scare with the phone. It wouldn't turn on and I thought I'd have to take it back but it doesn't turn on while charging like my other one

Fresh fruit and veg cost money I don't think a 99p block of cheapo Lidl choc or an 8-pack of KitKats per week is too excessive as a 'treat'. The crisps stopped a year ago when I bought the poshmobile and were replaced with bacon. Previously, without a fridge or any cooking facility, my options were limited. £15 per day on food still sounds like a fortune - your daily feed bill is more than I live on for a week! Glad the diet's going well. This should also see your food bill reduce too

I didn't say £15 every day, it's £10 to £15. Could be 10 or less some days if I just have veg but 3 days a week I can have beer which costs money - ask people what their doom bar budget is, LOL . Drinking water is cheaper! I think most people would spend around £10 a day on food, it's become very expensive the last couple of years - set up a poll if you don't believe me On the other point, donor caravans are fine if you have got the time and the space to go sourcing and dismantling them and selling on bits of caravans, or the time to sell caravans with bits missing, but you can still end up with a second hand heater which has had 15 years of abuse and doesn't work properly or worse still could be dangerous leaking CO into the van.

So an update on my phone, the Sony Mira. It's really brill! Screen is fantastic and the touch thingies work really well, it does all the rotate and move stuff just like the iphone and ipad at a fraction of the price - great value for £95. Screen a little small for web, but it can be used even here without the app and it is very clear. If it was any bigger it wouldn't fit in my pocket. I have a BT fon/openzone all you can eat sub on wifi and this phone works great with that the wifi is better than my laptop.
Thanks to WVW for the heads up on this model - If you want a smart phone at a sensible price Charlie you could do a lot worse than this one. It does come with Android 4.0 something too.
The only prob is I may be up all night playing with it!
